 Nominations for JEN Scholarships & Awards will open Spring 2012

TIMELINE

• Application Forms and Criteria are available online until closed for the various scholarships and awards, excluding the President's Service Award. Click the appropriate tab to self-nominate or nominate a candidate for a particular scholarship.
• Scholarships will be presented during the Annual JEN Conference.
• Compositions are performed at the JEN Composition Showcase during the Annual Conference.
• Deadline for applications to all programs is September 30, 2011
• Notification to recipients as applicable by November 1, 2011 

 

AWARDS

President's Service Award: The President's Service Award is awarded annually by the President and his/her council (which includes the President-Elect, Vice President, Past President, and additional members of the Past President's Advisory Council once established) to an individual that has satisfied the following criteria:

• Two years of continuing service to the organization
• Giving tirelessly of their efforts, resources, expertise, and time
• Demonstration of commitment to the organization's mission
• True example of altruism

John LaPorta Jazz Educator of the Year Award: Established in 2011 in partnership with the Berklee School of Music to honro Master Jazz Educator John LaPorta

JEN LeJENds of Jazz Education Award: Established in 2012 by the JEN Board of Directors to honor true legends in jazz education. Criteria is being developed for this award. The 2012 Inaugural Class’ credentials speak for themselves, given each members rather large and extensive 50 year background as pioneers in jazz and jazz education. The literal A-B-C-D’s of jazz education!

• The David Baker Scholarship:
Established 2010 by Jamey Aebersold. to honor Master Educator David Baker. $3,000/1 year eJEN membership/Certificate

• The Mary Jo Papich JEN Co-Founder Women in Jazz Scholarship: Established and funded in 2010 by Mary Jo Papich to honor Women in Jazz. In August 2011, the Board of JEN moved to fund this award in Mary Jo's honor from the JEN Education Fund, continuing in the amount of $1,000/1 year eJEN membership/Certificate

• The Dr. Lou Fischer JEN Co-Founder Scholarship: Established in August 2011, to be awarded in 2012. The Board of JEN moved to fund this award in Dr. Lou's honor from the JEN Education Fund, continuing in the amount of $1,000/1 year eJEN membership/Certificate

•JEN Program Design Contest: A deserving middle/high school art student has his/her artwork chosen to be featured as the cover art for the conference program. Program established 2010. Applications available online until closed.

•MENTORING: Established in 2012 as a pilot program, the Mission of the JEN Mentoring Program is to foster a program encompassing substantive one-to-one mentoring between student musicians and experienced, and master-level musicians. Achievement of this goal is through development of a system of broad-based student-mentor relationships designed to provide the student with additional tools towards fostering a productive, well-rounded career as a professional musician.
