Capital Focus Jazz Band

Capital Focus Jazz Band

The Capital Focus Jazz Band, directed by Dave Robinson, is the award-winning youth learning program of the Potomac River Jazz Club. The 7-piece group comprises some of the top high school and college musicians in the Washington DC area, specializing in the New Orleans-derived styles of jazz and swing. CFJB has performed at receptions for the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of State and many other dignitaries. DC performance venues have included the White House, the Capitol, the Kennedy Center, the National Mall, the Pentagon, Blues Alley, the Smithsonian, and dozens of other venues. Nationally they've played at Preservation Hall and other nightspots in
New Orleans, jazz clubs in Manhattan, and jazz festivals in Colorado and California. Internationally they've appeared in nightclubs and jazz festivals in Canada, France, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The band was also featured in live performance on NBC’s “Today Show”, and on Bravo’s “Artsbreak”. The band’s performance at the Louis Armstrong International Jazz Competition in Sainte-Adresse, France, won a special judges’ prize, placing ahead of several adult bands. The band was one of five young groups selected for the prestigious Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy in the mountains of Colorado. CFJB also took First Place in their Division, and all of their Division's Best Soloist medals, at the Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival in Sacramento. The band currently features 9-year-old cornetist Geoff Gallante, who has performed on the Tonight Show and Today Show, on nationally televised ball games, and has been a guest artist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson Big Band, and many others.
