The Johnston High School Jazz Syndicate is the top jazz ensemble at Johnston High School in Johnston, Iowa. Over 80 students participate in the 9-12th grade jazz program. The Jazz Syndicate is is a regular performer in the metro Des Moines area including jazz festivals, home concerts, and performances with the Des Moines Big Band. The band is the 2010 winner of the Iowa Jazz Championships. The Jazz Syndicate’s performance at the JEN conference will include guest artist Jim Oatts and a performance of a work commissioned by the band by composer Bob Washut.
